MEMORIAL DAY 2015

This weekend is a time for us to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our freedom, including their families.  C&S Capital and Dave's Auto want you to send you a deep heartfelt thank you. You will be in our thoughts and prayers this Memorial Day weekend.

Below are a few facts about Memorial Day. Please stay safe during your extended weekend. Keep in mind that we'll be closed on Monday, May 25, and will be back open during regular business hours on Tuesday.

What is Memorial Day

-Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

1) Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971

2) Waterloo, N.Y. is considered the birthplace of this holiday because the people of Waterloo were the first people to proclaim a day on May 5, 1866 to honor the soldiers who died in the Civil War. They closed their businesses and placed flowers and flags on the graves of their soldiers. Flags were flown at half-mast.

3) It was first known as Decoration Day

4) It is customary on Memorial Day to fly the flag at half staff until noon, and then raise it to the top of the staff until sunset.

5) Taps, the 24-note bugle call, is played at all military funerals and memorial services. It originated in 1862 when Union Gen. Dan Butterfield "grew tired of the 'lights out' call sounded at the end of each day," according to The Washington Post. Together with the brigade bugler, Butterfield made some changes to the tune.

6) Not long after, the melody was used at a burial for the first time when a battery commander ordered it played in lieu of the customary three rifle volleys over the grave. The battery was so close to enemy lines, and the commander was worried the shots would spark renewed fighting.

7) The World War I poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrea, inspired the Memorial Day custom of wearing red artificial poppies. In 1915, a Georgia teacher and volunteer war worker named Moina Michael began a campaign to make the poppy a symbol of tribute to veterans and for "keeping the faith with all who died." The sale of poppies has supported the work of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

8) More than 800 hot dogs are consumed a second

9) 57% of celebrants will barbecue. Top choices for grilling will be burgers (85%), steak (80%), hot dogs (79%) and chicken (73%), with no sign of tofurkey anywhere in the ratings. Hickory is the top flavor of barbecue sauce, followed by mesquite, honey, and spicy-hot.

10) More than 36 million people will travel at least 50 mile from home this weekend

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week:
Are you as conscientious about your windshield wipers as you are about your car's engine? Car safety is a critical concern for everyone.
Worn wiper blades are dangerous. Because 90% of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road, it's a critical safety concern that your car's wipers provide you with the cleanest windshield possible.
Ozone, airborne contaminants, oil, sunlight and dirt all act to weaken and reduce your wiper blades' ability to keep your view unobstructed. And exposure to sunlight and ozone cause the wiper blades to age, even if they're not used much.
Weather also plays a critical role in your windshield wiper blades' deterioration. Freezing temperatures make the rubber in your wiper blades hard and brittle, which increases their tendency to crack or tear. Hot weather warps the rubber and prevents the blade from wiping your windshield cleanly.
Heavy use is hard on the wipers because dust, abrasives, road grime and bug juice wear away the cutting edge the blade needs to wipe cleanly. Even road dirt acts like an abrasive to wear away the flat surface necessary for a good squeegee effect.
Rubber also deteriorates over time. As blades age, they lose their flexibility and are less able to wipe cleanly. They may develop a permanent set or curvature, which prevents full contact with your windshield.
Your blades' ability to clean the glass depends on:
The slope and area of the windshield: Today's windshields are more sloped than ever before for improved aerodynamics. But a sleek "cab-forward" windshield with a lot of glass area directs more wind against the wipers, which can force the blades away from the glass at high speeds unless the wiper system is designed to resist lift.

Heed the following maintenance tips for optimum wiper blade performance and driving visibility:
Tip #1:
Replace your wiper blades every 6 months or 6,000 miles - even if you live in a "dry" place like Arizona.
Tip #2: Consider your options when replacing your windshield wipers:
Option 1
You can replace just the refills (squeegees), which are the rubber wiping components installed into the vertebrae. This is your most economical option.
Option 2
You can replace the blades, which is the complete assembly composed of the metal frame and the refill. Although slightly more expensive, this option is faster to install and provides you with the benefit of improved windshield contact and, hence, wiping efficiency

Blog Neglect

We have been neglecting our obligation to maintian and post useful info to this blog. This probably is the reason we only have one follower (thanks Mike). We intend to change this, and we'll begin actively posting to the blog. Also you can find that we have joined facebook as a company and you can now become our fan. You might think to yourself, why should we be a fan? Your answer...Larger than life money saving coupons and extravagent referral bonus programs. By the end of this posting you will wish that you were a fan or follower of this blog.

Car maintenence tip of the day: Tire pressure changes as the outside air temperature changes. You cannot just set it and forget it; your tire pressure should be checked periodically. For every 10 degree change in the air temp, the pressure in your tires will change approximaely 1 psi (up with higher temperatures and down with colder temperatures.) Check your owners manual for the proper psi and try to keep your tires properly inflated. They will last longer and provide proper traction and stability.

Now for the ultimate referral bonus program available for a limited time and to a limited selection of individuals. The time frame is 2009. The qualifying individuals are the current followers of this blog at the time of this posting (thats you Mike) The program: Refer 12 people who buy cars from C&S Capital Corp in 2009 and we'll payoff that Lexus you have. Thats right...no more payments on that Lexus. You give us 12 customers and we'll give you the title for the Lexus free and clear. Mike McCarty since you are the only follower of this blog at this time; this a program only for you. Take advantage of it and get us those 12 referrals and we'll record us handing that title over to you.
